  • For Local Authority and Regional Assembly Staff

Join the OPR and the National Built Heritage Service (NBHS) of the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage for a ‘Built Heritage and Town Regeneration’ webinar on 28th February 2025, 10 – 11.30am.

The National Planning Framework promotes strong emphasis on compact growth and urban regeneration and this combined with the availability of a range of funding mechanisms creates a greater focus on the regeneration of our town centres with new development and rejuvenation projects often in areas of high architectural value. Such projects can have a transformative impact on our towns, especially when undertaken in a manner which is responsive to existing architectural character and which safeguards and complements the built heritage of the area.

To support the local government sector’s work in this area, the OPR has joined with the team in the NBHS to develop and deliver training that will provide practical advice and guidance for local authority staff.

The speakers will be:

  • Mona Hallinan, Architectural Conservation Advisor, with the NBHS. Mona will speak about ‘Safeguarding and Enhancing our Historic Towns – An Integrated Approach to Regeneration’
  • Simon Wall, Senior Architect with Mayo County Council. Simon will speak about ‘Promoting Development within Historic Towns – The Westport Experience’

The presentations will be followed by a Questions and Answers session which will be moderated by John Keating, Senior Planner with the OPR.
