The OPR Kick-Starts 2021 with a New Training Event for Local Authority Elected Members

The Office of the Planning Regulator (OPR) in conjunction with the Association of Local Government in Ireland (AILG) is holding its first planning training webinar of 2021 for elected members of local authorities on Friday, 22nd January from 10 am-11:30 am.

The title of the webinar is “The Decision on the Planning Application and Appeal.” The Minister of State for Local Government and Planning, Peter Burke TD will open the webinar

The individual presentations will be delivered by Catherine McConnell, the Director of Services for Planning in Mayo County Council and Terry Prendergast, a member of the board of An Bord Pleanála.

The first presentation will provide an insight into the factors that are taken into consideration by local authorities when making decisions on planning applications. The second will give an overview of the factors that are considered by An Bord Pleanála when making decisions on planning appeals and applications (i.e. Strategic Housing Development and Strategic Infrastructure Development applications).

This will be the second of three webinars in the OPR’s current training module. Overall, it will be the seventh session organised by the OPR and the AILG. Events were held in Dundalk and Limerick in October 2019, in Cavan and Waterford in February 2020. Online webinars were held in July, October, and November 2020
